Speaker's Bio: Judge Samuel T. Biscoe was born and reared in Tyler, Texas. He graduated from Emmett Scott High School in 1965. He attended Tyler Junior college and received an Associate of Arts degreee in 1967.

Continuing his education, he studied at North Texas state University in Denton, Texas and received a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1969. Upon graduating from North Texas State University he studied law at the university of Texas School of Law, where he received a Juris-Doctorate in 1973.

While in law school, he was president of the student Bar Association and the University of Texas School of Law Class of 1973.

Judge Biscoe was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1973. He was a Earl Warren Fellow, with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund from 1073 - 1974. He was in private law practice from 1974 - 1983.

In 1983, he became General Counsel and Special Assisstant to the Texas Department of agriculture, a position he held through 1988.

Judge Biscoe was elected Travis County Commissioner for Precinct One in 1988. He was Commissioner for nine years, before resigning in December of 1997 to seek the office of Travis County Judge.

On November 3, 1998, he was elected Travis County Judge, and has served in this capacity since December 1, 1998.

Judge Biscoe has received numerous awards and honors, including Who's Who in American Junior Colleges, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Man of the Year, Huston Tillotson Colleg Volunteer of the Year Award, Austin Area Urban League Whitney D. Young Award, NOKOA the Observer Newspaper Political Leader of the Year Award, The Villager Nespaper Living Legend Award, NAACP Dewitty/Overton Award and many others.

Most recently Judge Biscoe received the John B. Sheppard Leadership Institute of the University of Texas Permian Basin, Texas Local Leader of the Year Award, 2001. During his tenure as Travis County Judge, Judge Biscoe served as the chairman of the Community Action Network, member of the City of Austin Social Equity Commission, chairing the affordable Housing Subcommittee and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Capital area Planning Council.

Judge Biscoe is married to his lovely wife, Donalyn and they have two children.

We order meals based on your reservations and must pay for them even if you do not show up. Please keep this in mind if your plans shift and cancel your reservation so we can adjust the headcount.

Speaker's Bio: Elizabeth Hufnagel was born and bred in New Orleans. She attended Fordham University in New York before returning to her roots in New Orleans and earning a Communications and Political Science degree from Loyola University. Her fascination with politics and the media led to an undergraduate internship at the local Fox affiliate in New Orleans, followed by a staff position as associate producer upon graduation. She paid her real dues as a producer/reporter in West Virginia, where she made lemonade out of local news lemons.

It wasn’t long before she landed a job at KXAN in Austin, where she’s been a part of a winning team for the past six years. An avid runner, Elizabeth loves Austin’s outdoor parks and trails. And hardly a week goes by that she doesn’t visit one of the city’s live music venues. Although her heart will always be in New Orleans, she finds it hard to even consider leaving Austin.

The Youth Camp and Exchange Program was inaugurated in 1961 by the International Lions Organization and the Julien C. Hyer Camp has been serving the world since 1973.

The camp charge from the International Lions Club is to promote understanding and tolerance within this international group of young adults (ages 17 to 20) by experiencing first hand the culture and the family setting of the host country.

The camp runs for 5 weeks with visits in the Dallas area, Denton, Austin, and Lubbock, Texas. During the Austin leg of their visit to the USA, our club provides a home for the campers during their stay and an agenda that shows off the ‘Heart of Texas’ to these leaders of tomorrow.

The Austin leg of the five-week camp emphasizes the importance of the government, education and culture institutions of Texas that we feel can only be done in the Austin area.
