ALL ABOARD! the Lone Star Rail
September 24, 2015
Speaker: Sid Covington, Lone Star Rail Board of Directors Chair Introduced by Lion Mac Ragsdale
All Aboard for a talk on Lone Star Rail.
As everyone struggles with traffic in Austin, the Lone Star Rail District and its LSTAR rail service is seeking to create a convenient, cost-effective alternative to congested highways and time-consuming commutes between San Antonio and Austin. The San Antonio Express-News’Editorial Board called rail service between the two cities "a game changer" earlier this month.
Lone Star Rail’s CEO Sid Covington will give Lions an update on the current status of the District’s project to implement passenger rail service in the Austin-San Antonio corridor. The district is in the midst of an Environmental Impact Study and Sid will discuss where they are in that process, what they anticipate the outcome will be, and the time frame(s) they are working with.
Sid retired from Austin’s high-tech industry after 45 years with companies including Xerox, Honeywell and Unisys. He spends his summers working for the Boy Scouts of America at Philmont. He hails from Amarillo but has called Austin home since 1966. He has chaired the Lone Star Rail District since its inception in 2002.
