When History Comes Alive

July 13, 2017

Michael Barnes
Introduced by Lion Anne Rodgers

You are invited to attend our weekly meeting July 13 featuring Michael Barnes.

Michael is a native Texan who tells stories of Austin as only someone who loves it dearly can. He grew up in Houston, earned his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin and for 28 years, has written for the Austin American-Statesman about the city’s people, places, culture and history.

His book, Indelible Austin: Selected Histories, was published by Waterloo Press in 2015 and is in its second printing. In it, he explores Austin's neighborhoods, formative characters and events with amazing depth and color.

His “Out and About” columns in The Statesman are some of the city’s best-read social commentary, and for good reason. Michael’s musings take a different slant, and he writes without guile or posturing.

After his talk, there will be an opportunity to purchase a signed copy of Michael’s book.
