COVID-19 and The Future of Work: Five Helpful Tips

DATE: June 11, 2020  12:30 pm via Zoom

 Keri K. Stephens, PhD
Introduced by Lion Fred Jenga

The COVID-19 Pandemic has forced many people around the globe to change how they work. Many organizations had to rapidly shift their employees and other stakeholders to work from home.  In this talk, Dr. Stephens will share research and practical tips that should help our group better understand the challenges many of us have faced while working during COVID-19. She will end with five tips related to remote work that should be helpful as we re-envision the future of work through our COVID-19 experiences.

Keri K. Stephens, PhD, is an Associate Professor in Organizational Communication Technology and a Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Moody College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin. She studies organizational practices and organizing processes, especially in contexts of crisis, disaster, and health. She has authored over 80 articles appearing in top research journals, proceedings, and books, and her two most recent books are New Media in Times of Crisis (2019, Routledge), and the 2-time national-level award-winning book Negotiating Control: Organizations and Mobile Communication (2018, Oxford University Press).  Her Hurricane Harvey and social media research was funded by the National Science Foundation(NSF), and she has given a TEDxTalk.  In June, 2020, she began a new NSF-funded project examining how volunteers work with artificial intelligence to look through social media and help emergency managers make better decisions during COVID-19.
