Austin Founder Lions Club
The Austin Blackhawks were created by Captain Wayne Sibson and his family in the mid 1980s. Wayne wanted Austin to have it’s own Beep Baseball Team, and together with his Mom Rusty and Brother Kevin accomplished his dream. The Austin Blackhawks have participated in 25 straight World Series of Beep Baseball. The Blackhawks hold seven championship tournament wins, and many All Star Players are documented in the years of our involvement with the National Beep Baseball Association.
Speaker's Bio: Rusty Reames started promoting extracurricular activities like beep baseball for the blind and visually impaired in 1978, after her oldest son, Wayne Sibson, lost his vision as the result of retinitis pigmentosa at age 12.
She co-founded Sports Vision 20/20 in 1993, and she has worked as its chief fundraiser for about 18 years. Reames has also put together about 10 water-skiing clinics for people who are visually impaired. Reames also volunteers at Hospice Austin's Christopher House with her adopted retired guide dog, Faraday.
Rusty won the 2010 Senior Volunteer of the Year for 30 years of service to Beep Baseball and she said that "The beauty of being 68 is that you have lots of extra time, I get more out of it than I give".
