July 2005 Programs

THURSDAY, JULY 7 Veronica Tutaj, community educator for the Travis County Attorney's Underage Drinking Prevention Program, will speak on her interaction with youth in the Travis County community. Ms. Tutaj's presentation focuses on the dangers of underage drinking and the choices teens make about alcohol. She also touches on the "making available" issue, where parents, friends, relatives and even strangers inadvertently or intentionally provide young people with alcohol.
THURSDAY, JULY 14 As Commissioner of Agriculture, Susan Combs has made rural economic development and marketing Texas agricultural products top priorities in her administration. No one has been a better friend of rural Texas than Susan Combs. Susan Combs has also launched an innovative effort to promote tourism in small towns across the state, resulting in measurable revenue increases for those areas. Her award-winning marketing program, GO TEXAN! is a huge benefit to participants who have experienced increased sales and revenue.
THURSDAY, JULY 21 As John and Cindy Goodrich, co-founders of LanSafe Systems, Inc., can tell you, hacker-generated computer attacks (viruses, worms, spyware, Trojan horses, etc.) aren't letting up. Every business, from small family-owned companies to huge multinational corporations, is at risk. What steps can you take to protect not only your computer but, perhaps more importantly, your sensitive personal and financial information? The Goodriches will tell us about new protective and data recovery methods designed to keep your system 100% available with no data loss.
THURSDAY, JULY 28 Since beginning his career with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in 1985, Colonel Peter P. Flores has served in Anahuac, Bryan, Beaumont, San Antonio, San Angelo and Austin. He has risen steadily through the ranks from a game warden cadet to his current position as Director of Law Enforcement, Colonel Game Warden, Austin Headquarters.Colonel Flores' philosophy is one of community-oriented policing that has been the bedrock upon which game wardens have operated in Texas for well over a hundred years. He feels that as we move into the future and adapt to changing conditions, the foundation of service-oriented conservation law enforcement will continue. His hope, he says, is that Texans will always refer to the officers in the green trucks as our game
