Options and Resources for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

DATE: Thursday March 17, 2022  12:30 pm via Zoom

 Julie Andrews Blacklock
Introduced by Lion Glenda Summers

Program description

About our Speaker:

Julie Blacklock, who has been a mental health worker for 33 years, became interested in her field way back in college, when she was attending Southwestern University in Georgetown and landed a job at Austin State Hospital. That was 1988, and she’s still making a difference for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in Texas.

After internships in the child life development department of Herman’s Children’s Hospital in Houston and with the crisis intervention program at Georgetown Hospital’s emergency room (and becoming a licensed massage therapist), Julie devoted herself full-time to community-based services that serve those with disabilities. Over the years, she served in several roles with Austin Travis County Integral Care’s predecessor, Austin Travis County MHMR.

Today, she is co-owner and case manager for Twogether Consulting, Limited of Austin, where she also serves as staff development trainer and nursing supervisor/coordinator. She consults with IDD providers, and assists those groups with personnel training, quality assurance and the development of policies and procedures. Twogether Consulting also holds classes statewide for a variety of personnel serving Texas’ IDD population (live and via webinar).

Julie grew up in Houston and San Antonio, but makes her home in Austin today. She enjoys gardening, as well as sharing what she grows. Julie is married to Sean Blacklock, Lion Beverly Weeks’ son.
