Irlen Syndrome

April 5, 2018

Laura Ward Woelfel
Introduced by Lion Leonor Marques

Laura Woelfel is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor and 4th generation Austinite. She was diagnoised with Irlen Syndrome in 1991 when she was a senior at UT Austin. She went from a "C" student in undergrad without her Irlen lenses to a 4.0 student in graduate school with her Irlen lenses. She became a Certified Irlen Screener in 1995 and in 2007 became only 1 of 5 people in Texas to be a Certified Irlen Diagnostician.

Laura is passionate about helping students with learning disabilities. She herself was misdiagnosed with mild dyslexia all her life until she found out about Irlen Syndrome and finally got the help she needed. She is currently working on her doctorate degree in Reading and Literacy so that she can help more students with reading and learning issues in her private practice.

Irlen Syndrome is a visual processing issue between the eye and the brain. It is separate from other vision issues. Come and find out what the difference is between Irlen Syndrome and Dyslexia.
