The LBJ Library: Past, Present, and Future

The LBJ Library has been one of Austin's most iconic structures for half a century. But what happens inside those white travertine walls? This presentation will touch on the Library's history, its fiftieth anniversary, and plans for the future.

About our Speaker:

Mark Atwood Lawrence is director of the LBJ Presidential Library and Museum. Before 2020, he was professor of history at the University of Texas at Austin, where he taught courses in American history and the history of the Cold War. He is the author of three books about U.S. foreign relations and editor of several others. His most recent book is The End of Ambition: The United States and the Third World in the Vietnam Era, published by Princeton University Press in 2021. His writings have appeared in the Boston Globe, New York Times, Washington Post and other publications. He earned his B.A. degree from Stanford University and his Ph.D. from Yale University.
