From Immigrant to Educator, My Journey

 Juan Carlos Ruiz Castillo will give us a chronological description of what it took for him to immigrate to the US and to become an educator in Austin.

About our Speaker:

Juan Carlos Ruiz Castillo was born in Quibor- Lara- Venezuela. He finished high school in Venezuela then moved to the United States. He graduated from Texas A&I University in 1988, and received his Masters and principalship at Sul Ross University in 1994. He has two daughters and one son. (Carla , Bianca, and Juan Carlos).  He played volleyball for Venezuela's national team and played for an international volleyball club. He worked for 38 years as a Physical Education and Spanish teacher, and Volleyball coach. He is currently retired and is an avid golfer. The highlight of his career were the last 12 years at The Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders.

Starting at 11:45 a.m., a BBQ buffet, consisting of choice of meats (brisket, pork ribs, smoked turkey breast, sausage), choice of sides (beans, potato salad, coleslaw), drinks (water or unsweetened ice tea), and a dessert (banana pudding) will be available in the Crockett Room. Cost of the lunch is $14.00 per person. Please register online before 3 pm this Tuesday. You can pay online or at the meeting, but it is much preferred that you pay online to reduce handling of cash. The actual meeting will begin at noon, and conclude by 1 p.m.
