Come to this meeting and bring a friend to meet Matias Segura, AISD’s new Interim Superintendent. Mr. Segura will give us a progress report on the $2.5 billion 2022 bond that he was instrumental in getting passed, and a general overview of the state of the Austin Independent School District.
In addition, the Club will be hosting representatives of the six schools who will be accepting this year's recognition for their Founder Lions namesakes. Student representatives will also be attending.

Matias Segura is the interim superintendent of the Austin Independent School District, serving more than 74,000 students and 10,000 employees.
Trustees had unanimously approved Segura as the interim superintendent at their regular voting meeting Dec. 15, 2022, with the intent to recruit and name a new, permanent superintendent by July. At a special board voting meeting March 30, 2023, trustees voted unanimously to extend Segura’s contract through June 30, 2024.
He first joined the district in 2018 as the Operations Officer and led the implementation of the $1.05 billion 2017 Bond.
He went on to lead the Long-range Planning process, which was the largest-scale application of the Equity by Design process in district history. The process served as the foundation of the record-breaking $2.4 billion 2022 Bond as well as the non-operational strategies included in the Long-range Plan.
Prior to joining Austin ISD, Segura was the director of the Travis County Civil and Family Complex Program. He led the program to build a new courthouse, an office building, associated subsurface parking garage, surrounding infrastructure and site improvements.
Segura is a Professional Engineer with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Texas Tech University and a Master of Business Administration degree in finance from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a product of Austin ISD, a father of two daughters who attend Austin ISD and his mother taught at AISD for 42 years.

Starting at 11:45 a.m., a BBQ buffet, consisting of choice of meats (brisket, pork ribs, smoked turkey breast, sausage), choice of sides (beans, potato salad, coleslaw), drinks (water or unsweetened ice tea), and a dessert (banana pudding) will be available in the Crockett Room. Cost of the lunch is $14.00 per person. Please register online before 5 pm on Tuesday. You can pay online or at the meeting, but it is much preferred that you pay online to reduce handling of cash. The actual meeting will begin at noon, and conclude by 1 p.m.
