I write about the people, places, culture and history of Austin. How I delve into each of those realms of reporting and writing differs. But even the process tells you something about Austin past and present.
About our speaker:
Michael Barnes is a native Texas who earned his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. For more than 30 years, he has written about the people, places, culture and history of Austin and Texas. His stories can be found in the Austin American-Statesman, on statesman.com, via podcast at Austin Found, via digital newsletter at Think, Texas, and via four books under the title “Indelible Austin.” He has won local, regional and national journalism awards, twice served on the Pulitzer Prize jury for criticism and has taught classes and workshops at seven Austin-area colleges and universities. He continues to mentor and lecture on journalism, history and the arts

Starting at 11:45 a.m., a BBQ buffet, consisting of choice of meats (brisket, pork ribs, smoked turkey breast, sausage), choice of sides (beans, potato salad, coleslaw), drinks (water or unsweetened ice tea), and a dessert (banana pudding) will be available in the Crockett Room. Cost of the lunch is $14.00 per person. Please register online before 5 pm on Tuesday. You can pay online or at the meeting, but it is much preferred that you pay online to reduce handling of cash. The actual meeting will begin at noon, and conclude by 1 p.m.
Wearing masks is optional. Please stay home if you are feeling unwell or have recently been around someone with COVID.
