About our Speaker:

As the American-Statesman's Metro columnist, Bridget Grumet brings clarity to the challenges facing the Austin area. She spent two decades as a reporter and editor covering local government issues before becoming an opinion writer in 2018. First as a member of the Statesman’s Editorial Board, and now as a columnist, Bridget has repeatedly earned top opinion-writing honors in Texas, and last year she received the national Carmage Walls Commentary Prize for courageous and constructive opinion writing.

Bridget grew up in New Mexico, went to Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., then worked for the Tampa Bay Times in Florida before moving to Austin a decade ago. Outside the office, she’s busy keeping up with two teenagers and planning the next family road trip.
