 Pete Fredriksen
Introduced by Lion Gaylord Armstrong

Mr. Fredriksen is a former public elected official and dedicated philanthropist who current dedicates his experience and career to the LBJ Library. He will reintroduce us to the unique contributions and value of the LBJ Library to our city, Texas and the entire country. He will also share with us many of the unknown attributes and historical displays at the Library.

About our Speaker:

Born in Cleveland, OH and raised primarily in California and Galveston Texas, Pete is a graduate of Galveston’s O’Connell high school. He attended the University of Texas at Austin where he was a Moody scholar. Graduating in 1975 with a B.A. in English/Communications along with a teaching certificate.

After graduation, Pete returned to Galveston where he taught at his high school alma mater for two years before getting involved in local politics, that culminated with winning a seat on Galveston’s City Council at the age of 25. Pete went on to co-found a local bi-weekly publication called In Between Magazine, and pursued more active participation in local, state and national political campaigns and causes.

In 1992 Pete moved back to Austin to work on the statewide campaign for Court of Criminal Appeals Judge Morris Overstreet and later the campaign to elect Ann Richards Governor. After leaving the partisan campaign world, Pete went on to lead issue campaigns for a series of large non-profit organizations including Families USA, AARP and the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network.

Today Pete is retired and volunteers at the LBJ Library. He and wife Amanda reside in Austin as do his two grown daughters and 4 grandchildren.
