An illustrated account of Haussmann’s transformation of Paris will include maps, contemporary photographs, and paintings inspired by the the rapid emergence of the new Paris. Our spotlight will be trained on Gustave Caillebotte, who produced some of Impressionism’s handsomest paintings. Caillebotte made the new Paris his subject, producing memorable images of people-watchers on balconies and strollers in the new streets.
