Blind Independence

Blind Independence is the art of learning to travel independently with a white cane or dog guide. Patti will take you through the basic skills of being a human guide and help those who dare, practice guide techniques within the confines of the room. We will also learn about the connection between Lions and blindness and about my recent trip to the Leader Dog School in Rochester, MI.
About our Speaker:
Patti Robinson worked at Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired for 42 years now retired. She is a graduate of the University of Texas with a degree in Fine Arts. While working at TSBVI she obtained many certifications such as Foundations in Visual Impairments 135 hours of study through UT’s graduate school in deficient vision, Instructor certification in The Mandt System a positive behavior support training program, Instructor in Defensive Driving, Instructor in AHA First Aid and CPR. She was President of the Austin Founder Lions Club in 2004 and 2024 A recipient of MD2 Leo Club Advisor of the year 2012-2013, a Jack Wiech Fellow and a Melvin Jones Fellow. Patti is married to Wes Phillips who teaches golf at Jimmy Clay Golf Course. Together they have 3 kitties: Bart, Dot, and Daisy
