Anne L. Corn, Ed.D. Introduced by Lion Sandi Mann
“He doesn’t see very well” just scratches the surface in describing or understanding low vision - what a person sees or how such vision can impact a person’s life. This presentation offers basic foundations of understanding low vision. Then we will discuss how multidisciplinary low vision clinics can help people to learn to use their available vision. There is a dearth of these services in Central Texas. Lions can help to create such a clinic for Central Texas and beyond.
About our Speaker:
Anne Corn is professor emerita from the Departments of Special Education, Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Vanderbilt University. Her writings and research were primarily in the area of low vision though she also conducted research to benefit those who are totally blind. Dr. Corn created the project, Providing Access to the Visual Environment (PAVE), a multi-disciplinary low vision clinic for children in Tennessee. Today she has two professional interests - one is in conducting individualized evaluations that aid in resolving disputes between parents and school districts; the other is a new research project on how driverless cars may help volunteer driving services to provide rides for seniors who are able and willing to use them. Dr. Corn has low vision and a unique perspective on the use of functional vision.
